Allocate More RAM to a Minecraft Server

Note: Before proceeding, Make sure that you have enough RAM available on your Computer to serve Minecraft as well as your daily computing tasks.

  1. Open Notepad on your computer, You can do this by clicking on the start button and selecting notepad from the “All Apps” list on Windows.
  2. Paste in the following line – java -Xmx3072M -Xms3072M -jar yourserver.jar
  3. Replace yourserver.jar with your server jar file.
  4. Finally, Press “Ctrl + S” or click, File >> Save as and save the file as “run.bat”
  5. Copy the File to your Minecraft server’s folder where your server.jar file is located.

Once you have copied the file to the correct location, Double-click on the run.bat file to start your server. This will allocate an additional 3 GB of RAM to your Minecraft Server. If you want to allocate more or less then simply change the 3072M with the number of your choice. For example, if you want to allocate an additional 1 GB only then use 1024M instead of 3072 and for additional ram simply multiple 1024 with the RAM GB’s to get the exact number to put in the notepad file.

Allocate More RAM to Minecraft server using Default Launcher

If you want to use your default Minecraft launcher to change the RAM of your minecraft server then please use Minecraft Java 8 64 bit as this feature is not available in older versions.

Once you have your Minecraft up to date, Follow these steps:

  1. Start Minecraft on your Computer.
  2. Head over to the “Installation” Tab on your Screen.
  3. Under “Edit Installation“, Click on “More” button to get additional settings.
  4. Look for “JVM Arguments” and click on the box below which says something like “-Xmx2G-XX” where 2 means 2GB RAM is allocated to the server.
  5. Change this number to whatever you want and click “Save“.

  1. Download and install ATLauncher on your Computer.
  2. Launch the ATLauncher App by Double-clicking the icon.
  3. Look for the “Settings” option on the Bottom right of the Right-Pane menu and click it.
  4. From the Top menu bar, Select Java/Minecraft and look for the Maximum MemoryRam field
  5. Enter your RAM Allocation in MB and not GB (if you want to allocate 1 GB then enter 1024 MB).
  6. Click Save.

1. Download the ATLauncher Launcher

  1. Visit the ATLauncher website here :
    https://www.atlauncher.com/downloads
  2. Click the “Windows (.exe)” button
  3. If you’re a Mac or Linux user click the the app or jar links
  4. The ATLauncher will be saved to your computers download folder
  5. Move the download to a new folder called ‘ATLauncher’ do not run the launcher from your desktop or download folder
  6. Double click the launcher icon to start ATLauncher

2. Adding your Minecraft User to the ATLauncher

  1. Click the ‘Accounts’ tab
  2. Enter your Minecraft Username/Email Address and Password
  3. Untick ‘Remember Password’ if you’re using a public computer
  4. Click the ‘Add’ button

3. Launching a Modpack

  1. Click on the ‘Packs’ tab
  2. Choose a modpack from the scrolling list
  3. Click the ‘New Instance’ button
  4. from the Version To Install dropdown choose the latest version, If you need to run an older (or) beta version of a Modpack choose this in the dropdown
  5. If you see the optional mods option then click the ‘Select Recommended’ button
  6. Click the ‘Install’ button to install the modpack
  7. Once the modpack is installed click the ‘Instances’ tab
  8. Find the modpack you installed and click play

4. Connecting to your ATL server

Once ATL Modpack has started:Atlauncher

  1. Click on ‘Multiplayer’
  2. ‘Click Add Server’
  3. Enter a name for your server in the ‘Server name’ box
  4. Enter your server details into the ‘Server Address’ box, this is in the format {IP Address}:{Port}, e.g. 255.255.255.255:25565
  5. Click ‘Done’, your server will be added to the list
  6. Double-click the server to join it

Hint : The number one reason for connection problems is when the modpack’s server and launcher versions don’t match, make sure the version number in the server list matches the one on the launcher. If not change the launcher version or contact support for a free server upgrade.

Make sure the modpack version in the launcher and server match, if they don’t match you’ll have a connection error when you join.
